Punta Allen is the small fishing village at the far end of the rough road through Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. It is not the easiest place on the Riviera Maya to reach, and that is the point: after Tulum's traffic and beach clubs, the road narrows into mangroves, lagoons, pale sand, and a settlement that still feels more like a working village than a resort.
Come here for Ascension Bay, boat trips, birdlife, reef snorkelling, and the feeling of being inside a UNESCO-protected landscape rather than looking at it from a tour bus. The village itself is quiet. Most of the value is in the water and wetlands around it.
The drive from Tulum can be slow, rutted, and ugly after rain. Do not treat Punta Allen as an easy beach errand. With a full day, patience, and decent weather, though, it is one of the better ways to see the wilder side of the Yucatan coast.
