1000 Steps

Reef beach below a limestone stairway, with clear snorkelling and a famously tiring climb out.

1000 Steps is one of Bonaire's most beautiful shore entries, reached down a limestone staircase from the north-coast road. The name exaggerates: there are 67 steps, but the climb feels longer when you are carrying dive gear back up.

The small coral-sand beach opens onto clear water used by snorkellers and divers, with turtles sometimes feeding over the shallows. Entry can be awkward over loose coral rubble, so water shoes help and conditions should be checked before committing. Parking is limited; early morning is calmer than the middle of the day.
