Oatman is a tiny old mining town on one of Arizona's most memorable stretches of Route 66. It is touristy, loud in the middle of the day, and not subtle at all. That is part of the point.
The main street is lined with wooden storefronts and gift shops, while semi-wild burros wander in from the surrounding Black Mountains and stop traffic as if they own the road. Staged gunfights add more noise, and the old Oatman Hotel keeps the mining-town story visible behind the souvenir trade.
Come as a half-day trip from Kingman or as a slow detour between Kingman and the Colorado River. The drive over Sitgreaves Pass is as important as the town itself: narrow, bare, and full of old Route 66 drama.
