Cesar Chavez Park occupies the old landfill-turned-green space at the Berkeley Marina, giving it some of the best open-sky views in the city. On clear days you can see across the bay to San Francisco, the Golden Gate, Mount Tamalpais, and the East Bay hills.
The park is simple but satisfying: walking loops, grass, public art, dogs, kites, and wind. It is worth adding to a Berkeley visit when you want space after campus streets and cafes. Bring a layer, because the breeze off the bay is often the main character.
