Desolation Canyon is a quiet badlands hike in Death Valley, reached from the Furnace Creek area but less clearly marked than the park's famous viewpoints. The route winds through pale, eroded side canyons and gives a strong sense of solitude close to the main road.
Carry water, avoid the hottest parts of the day, and use a proper map or GPS track, as the route is less obvious than the park's signed trails.
