Mustard Canyon is a short hike north of Furnace Creek through yellow and ochre badlands. The colour is the point: in the right light the canyon walls look stained with mustard, rust, and pale clay.
The route is not difficult, but parts are narrow and rough underfoot. Go early or late in the day for cooler temperatures and better shadows, and do not treat it casually in hot weather.
