Edwards Mansion

Address 2064 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands, CA 92374

The Edwards Mansion is a 1890 Queen Anne Victorian — three storeys, a tower, gables and gingerbread trim — that now sits on the grounds of the historic Barton Ranch on the eastern edge of Redlands. The building was moved to its present site in 1973 to save it from demolition and has operated since as a wedding and event venue, surrounded by an orange grove that gives the property a strong sense of what Redlands looked like at the height of the citrus boom.

It is not always open to casual visitors — check the schedule on the venue's website — but you can usually walk the grounds and photograph the exterior. The neighbouring Barton Ranch and Dr. Benjamin Barton's 1860s adobe are part of the same site.

A story
The mansion was built in 1890 by James W. Edwards on a different site downtown. In 1973 the city moved it five kilometres to its current location at the historic Barton Ranch to save it from demolition; the move took a week, with the house creeping along the road on temporary rails.
