Space View Park

A small linear park on Indian River Drive, directly opposite Kennedy Space Center's launch pads 39A and 39B. This is the closest publicly accessible viewing point for major rocket launches — close enough to feel the sound delay across the water and to see the exhaust trail clearly. The park has bronze monuments to every Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo mission, and a viewing wall with engraved astronaut handprints.

On launch days the park fills hours in advance; cars line Indian River Drive for miles. On any other day it is quiet, with picnic shelters and excellent views across the lagoon. There is no admission charge.

A story
Space View Park hosts an annual brick-laying ceremony in which any astronaut who has flown to space is invited to leave a handprint. The wall along the riverfront includes bronze plaques and prints from every Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo flight crew, and many of the Shuttle and Commercial Crew missions.
