Bowling Green

South-central Kentucky university city, known for the National Corvette Museum and nearby cave country.

Bowling Green is the third-largest city in Kentucky, sitting in the south-central part of the state about an hour north of Nashville, Tennessee. It is a university town (Western Kentucky University sits on a hill above downtown) with a younger population than much of the region and a reasonably active food and arts scene for its size.

The city's main draw for visitors is the National Corvette Museum, which traces the full history of America's longest-running sports car and sits directly across from the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant — tours of the factory itself can be booked in advance. Car enthusiasts make the trip specifically for this.

Mammoth Cave National Park, one of the longest cave systems in the world, is about 40 minutes to the north and makes a logical day trip. The cave tours range from easy walks to more adventurous crawls through undeveloped passages.
