Flat Iron Building

The Flat Iron Building is a nine-storey wedge at the corner of Battery Park Avenue and Wall Street, built in 1926 to fit a triangular lot. It is a cousin of New York's better-known Flatiron, with the same exaggerated narrow prow and a similar steel-frame construction clad in brick.

The block-long Wall Street running off its narrow end is one of downtown's best preserved streets: dropped down below street level, lined with low brick storefronts, and ending in a giant bronze flat iron sculpture by sculptor Reed Todd. The building was recently converted to a hotel, and the lobby is open to the public.
