St. Matthias Episcopal Church

St. Matthias Episcopal Church is a small Gothic-style brick church just east of downtown Asheville. The darker headers in the brickwork give the exterior a strong horizontal texture, while the gabled nave keeps the building modest in scale.

Inside, the original woodwork is the main draw: pulpit, lectern, altar, and other furnishings retain Gothic details such as trefoil arches and quatrefoil carving. It is a quiet architectural stop near the South Slope rather than a major museum-scale sight.
