Glenpool is a small city of around 12,000 people in southern Tulsa County, Oklahoma. It owes its existence to oil: the Glenn Pool oilfield discovered here in 1905 was one of the richest strikes of its era and played a significant role in funding the early growth of Tulsa, earning the town its unofficial motto as "the city that made Tulsa famous." A historical marker at Black Gold Park marks the actual discovery site.
Each May the town marks this history with the Black Gold Days festival, celebrating the oil boom era with music, food, and a parade. Glenpool sits just south of Tulsa and is primarily a residential community, but its oil history gives it a distinctive identity in the region.
