Glacier Basin Trail starts near White River Campground and climbs into one of the more dramatic alpine basins on Mount Rainier's northeast side. The route follows old mining-road grades at first, then opens toward meadows, mountain walls, and views of the Emmons Glacier country.
It is a real hike, not a roadside viewpoint, so snow, creek crossings, and weather matter. In good summer conditions it rewards the effort with a quieter Rainier experience than Paradise and a much closer feel for the mountain's glaciated side.
