Ohanapecosh is the greener, lower, more sheltered face of Mount Rainier National Park. Instead of glaciers and open alpine meadows, you get huge old-growth trees, clear water, mossy forest trails, and the historic hot-springs area that helped make this corner of the park a destination.
It is especially good when the high country is still snowbound or clouded in. The Grove of the Patriarchs area and nearby riverside walks make Ohanapecosh a strong family stop, though seasonal road and trail closures should be checked before driving across the park.
