Mount Fremont Lookout Trail is one of the classic hikes from Sunrise, trading dense forest for open ridges, alpine meadows, and a historic fire lookout facing Mount Rainier. The grade is moderate by park standards, but the exposure makes the views feel big almost the whole way.
Start early in summer because Sunrise parking fills quickly and the trail has little shade beyond the first stretch. On a clear day the payoff is superb: Rainier close at hand, the White River country below, and long sightlines toward the Cascades.
