Longmire is one of Mount Rainier National Park's classic gateways, with historic park buildings, forest trails, and views that introduce the mountain without the crowds of Paradise. The old inn and museum area preserve the early national-park feel of the Nisqually entrance.
Use Longmire for short walks, ranger information, and a slower start to the mountain road. Conditions change quickly with elevation and season, so it is also a practical place to check closures before heading higher.
