Cerro Corazón de Jesús

A steep concrete staircase climbs from the eastern edge of town to a small chapel and a statue of Christ on Cerro Corazón de Jesús. It is the easiest viewpoint over Tupiza and the surrounding canyons, reached in about twenty minutes from Plaza Independencia.

From the top you get the whole town below you, the red bluffs of Palala to the north, and on a clear day a long view south toward the Argentine frontier. Best at the end of the afternoon when the light turns the rocks deep orange.
