Tupiza River

The Tupiza River is the seasonal stream that has carved the canyons around the town. For much of the year it is little more than a sandy wash, but in the December–March rainy season it can fill quickly and become impassable.

The river bed itself is a flat, sandy highway for horseback riders and mountain bikers heading out into the canyons — an easier alternative to the steeper trails up the side ravines.
