The small Catholic church of São Miguel sits on a low hill above the working waterfront of Praia da Ribeira, marking the original colonial centre of Itacaré. It dates from the eighteenth century, though much of the present structure is a later rebuild — whitewashed walls, blue trim, a low bell tower.
The interior is plain and worth no special detour, but the church is part of any walk through the older streets of town and the small plaza in front has a good view back across the river mouth. Mass times are posted on a board at the entrance.
