Rua Pedro Longo

The main pedestrian street that runs through the centre of Itacaré, lined with surf shops, juice bars, restaurants, and small boutiques selling handmade jewellery and beach clothes. It is partly cobbled, partly sandy, and almost entirely closed to cars. The whole town's social life passes through here in the evenings.

Walk it once in the late afternoon for the practical errands (cash, surf wax, a quick fish lunch) and once after dark, when the bars come alive with axé and reggae and the street fills with locals and travellers in roughly equal proportion. It is short enough to cover end to end in fifteen minutes but worth doing twice.
