The town beach proper, fronting the older waterfront of Itacaré inside the river mouth. The water here is brown — Atlantic mixed with the cocoa-rich freshwater of the Rio de Contas — and not especially swimmable, but the beach is the heart of the local fishing economy: small wooden boats are pulled up on the sand, and a market sells the morning's catch right at the water.
It is worth a walk for the working-port atmosphere rather than the swimming. At sunset, the fishing fleet heads out for the night and the scene is genuinely cinematic. A few cheap fish restaurants line the shore.
