The closest beach to the town centre, sitting in a small, sheltered cove just at the mouth of the Rio de Contas. Calm water, a sandy bottom, and a long stretch of barracas (beach kiosks) make it the obvious place for families and for an easy afternoon swim — no surf, no strong currents, easy parking.
It is not the most beautiful beach in the area, but the convenience is unbeatable. You can walk here from any pousada in town in fifteen minutes. The kiosks serve grilled fish, caipirinhas, and cold beer all day, and the western end of the beach has a good view of fishing boats moving in and out of the estuary.
