The Sítio Rangedor State Park is a protected green area within the city of São Luís, an urban park covering several hundred hectares of Atlantic Forest remnants, lakes, and walking trails. It's a genuine escape from the city — the trails pass through dense secondary forest where birds are abundant, and the central lake is popular with local families for picnics and paddle boats.
The park is not heavily touristed and offers a very different side of São Luís from the colonial historic centre. If you have half a day to spare, it's a pleasant destination for birdwatching or a quiet walk. The park is accessible by bus from the centre, though the best time to visit is the morning before the heat of the day sets in.
