Lago Caburgua is a smaller, quieter alternative to Lago Villarrica, sitting about 24 kilometres northeast of Pucón in a sheltered valley. The water is extraordinarily clear and warm — warmer than Villarrica because it is shallower — and the white sand beaches on the southern shore are among the most attractive in the Lake District.
The lake is popular with Chileans but sees fewer foreign tourists than the main lake in Pucón. There is camping near the beaches and a handful of simple restaurants. The lake is accessible by local bus from Pucón in about 40 minutes. If you are spending more than a few days in the area, a day at Caburgua is a genuinely pleasant counterpoint to the more active pursuits around Pucón.
