The Palace of Cerro Castillo crowns the hill that gives the neighbourhood its name and serves as the official country retreat and summer residence of the President of Chile. The building dates from the 1920s and is in a restrained Spanish colonial revival style: white walls, terracotta roofs, deep arcaded loggias.
The grounds are normally closed but the exterior is visible from the streets around the hill, and during the song festival the building is often heavily used by visiting officials. The walk around Cerro Castillo, looking up at the Brunet and presidential palaces and down at the breakers, is one of the most distinctive in town.
