The Chipre neighbourhood sits on the western ridge of Manizales and the public mirador at its tip is the best place in the city to watch the sunset, with views over the Cauca river valley to the west and the Cordillera Central to the south.
The mirador has a small park, a café, and the Monumento a los Colonizadores — a bronze monument to the antioqueño settlers who founded Manizales in 1849. The food stalls below sell arepas and obleas (wafer sandwiches filled with arequipe). It is a short bus or taxi ride from the city centre.
