Museo del Oro Quimbaya

The Manizales branch of the Banco de la República's Museo del Oro is small but well-curated, focused on the gold and pottery of the Quimbaya culture that occupied the middle Cauca valley before the Spanish conquest. The Quimbaya were master goldsmiths — their poporos (lime containers for the coca ritual) are among the finest pre-Columbian metalwork in the Americas.

The museum is housed in the Centro Cultural Banco de la República just off Plaza de Bolívar. Entry is free and it takes an hour to do justice to the collection.
