Pocitos is Montevideo's most liveable neighbourhood — a mostly residential area with a wide beach along the Rambla, good cafes and restaurants on Bulevar España, and a slightly more European feel than the older parts of the city. It's where many of Montevideo's middle class live and where a lot of the city's better restaurants are found.
The beach at Pocitos is the most popular in the city — calm water, a long stretch of sand, and the continuous Rambla promenade above it. On summer evenings and weekends it fills up with families, joggers, and people sitting on the sea wall with mate. The neighbourhood is also where you'll find some of the city's better independent restaurants and wine bars, particularly around the junction of Bulevar España and the cross-streets toward the beach.
