Parque Lecocq is a large wildlife park on Montevideo's western edge, close to the wetlands of the Santa Lucia River. It functions more as a conservation and education landscape than a tight city zoo, with open spaces and animal areas spread across a broad site.
The park is a worthwhile change of pace if you have already seen the Rambla, Ciudad Vieja, and the central museums. It is far enough from downtown that transport planning matters, and it is best approached as a half-day outing.
