Pocitos Beach is Montevideo at its most relaxed and urban: sand, apartment towers, mate flasks, volleyball, and the Rambla all sharing the same curve of coast. It is not a wild beach, and that is the point. This is where the city comes out to walk, sit, jog, and watch the river-wide water change colour.
The beach is easiest to enjoy late in the day, when the light softens and the promenade fills. Swim conditions vary, but even without swimming Pocitos is one of the best places to feel the rhythm of everyday Montevideo.
