The old city occupying the tip of the promontory, with colonial and neoclassical architecture, narrow streets, and several significant buildings. The Plaza de la Constitución (Matriz) is the historic centrepiece, flanked by the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Cabildo (town hall). The neighbourhood has been in the process of slow revival, with galleries, cafes, and arts spaces filling restored buildings.
