Museo Blanes is one of Montevideo's key art museums, set in the Prado district rather than the central museum circuit. Its collection is anchored by Juan Manuel Blanes, the nineteenth-century painter whose historical images helped shape Uruguay's national imagination.
The setting adds a lot: the old villa, garden, and nearby Japanese garden make the visit feel slower and greener than downtown. It is especially worthwhile if you want Montevideo's cultural life beyond Ciudad Vieja and the Rambla.
