Ain Khudra

Palm oasis in the Sinai desert, best visited on a longer Bedouin safari

Ain Khudra is a pocket of palms and shade in the dry interior north-west of Dahab. The appeal is simple: after miles of stony desert, the sudden green of the oasis feels almost theatrical, especially if you arrive late in the day when the heat has eased.

It is too far from Dahab to treat casually. Go as part of a proper desert trip with a Bedouin guide, ideally one that combines the oasis with nearby canyons and an overnight camp. Midday drop-ins can feel rushed and crowded; evening and early morning are much better.
