Lighthouse Reef

The Lighthouse dive site sits right in the heart of Dahab's tourist waterfront, accessible by walking straight off the restaurant promenade into the sea. The coral begins just below the surface and the reef wall drops away quickly into clear, deep water. Even snorkelling in the shallows reveals parrotfish, angelfish, lionfish, and occasional turtles — the concentration of marine life is remarkable.

For divers, the Lighthouse wall is a classic Red Sea reef dive with good visibility and the full range of Gulf of Aqaba fish life. Multiple dive centres on the Masbat promenade run daily dive trips here, and it is the standard site for introductory dives and basic courses. The site is at its best early morning before the afternoon thermocline sets in.

A story
The Lighthouse site gets its name from a small lighthouse on the shore beside it. Unlike most famous dive sites in Egypt, it is accessible directly from the beach without a boat — you simply walk into the water from the town promenade. This makes it one of the most democratic reef systems in the world: serious dive instructors and total beginners snorkel the same patch of coral, usually metres apart.
