Daan Viljoen Nature Reserve is a convenient nature escape west of Windhoek, with walking trails through rolling savannah and chances to see giraffes, ostriches, antelope, and other wildlife.
It is close enough for a half-day trip from the city. Wear sturdy shoes, carry water, and watch for thorny acacia-like scrub along the trails.
