Lekki

Long sand-spit district east of VI, with the conservation centre and beaches

Lekki is the long, narrow peninsula that runs east from Victoria Island along the Atlantic coast — a sandbar that holds most of the city's new-money development, the Lekki Conservation Centre, the Nike Art Gallery, the Lekki Market, and a string of weekend beaches (Elegushi, La Campagne Tropicana). Traffic on the Lekki-Epe Expressway is famous — count on hours on a Friday evening — and on the new toll roads it is still the major link to the east. For visitors, the interesting things are mostly clustered around the first 10 km out from VI.
