Taiping Street

Taiping Street runs parallel to Pozi Street through the old city and shares its heritage-restoration character, but with a slightly different emphasis: more evening bars and teahouses, slightly fewer souvenir stalls. The street has been associated with Changsha's old merchant quarter since the Ming dynasty, and several shopfronts retain their original guild-era facades. At the northern end, a cluster of small museums covers local history and folk culture.

The food stalls on Taiping Street overlap with Pozi Street's offerings but tend toward the later-evening crowd: skewers, cold noodles, and the various preparations of doufu (tofu) that Hunanese cooking has elevated to a minor art form. The street is a ten-minute walk from Wuyi Square, heading south along the old city wall alignment. Best visited after dark when the lanterns are lit and the food vendors are in full operation.
