Xingsha District

Xingsha is Changsha's eastern development zone, a modern district built from the late 1990s onward that now houses many of the city's major entertainment and media facilities, including the Hunan Satellite Television studios. The district has a very different character from the old city: wide boulevards, modern residential towers, shopping malls, and a concentration of the younger professional population that the television industry has brought to Changsha.

Xingsha is not typically a tourist destination, but visitors interested in contemporary Chinese urban development or the Mango TV phenomenon will find it revealing. The Meixi Lake International Culture and Art Centre — a lakeside complex with arts venues, galleries, and the Changsha Culture Museum — is in a related development district nearby and worth combining with a Xingsha visit. The district is accessible by metro Line 5.
