Fuqing Temple on the western shore of Moon Lake is a small Taoist and Buddhist complex whose buildings date from the late Qing dynasty with earlier foundations. The temple's main interest is its setting on the lakeside rather than its architecture, and the approach through the old residential lanes of the Moon Lake district is one of the more pleasant short walks in central Ningbo. The temple maintains an active programme of festivals aligned with the Chinese lunar calendar.
The surrounding Moon Lake area is one of the city's better-preserved old residential quarters, with several scholars' gardens and private residences from the Ming and Qing periods documented and marked with plaques. A short circuit of the lake's western shore, taking in the temple and the surviving old houses, gives a more domestic and neighbourhood-scale experience of Ningbo's historical character than the more prominent Tianyi Ge or Laowaitan sites.
