Yinzhou District

Yinzhou, the newer southern district of Ningbo, is where the city's ambitious contemporary architecture is concentrated. Wang Shu's Ningbo History Museum is the anchor of the district's cultural zone, joined by a series of large-scale public buildings commissioned during the rapid development of the 2000s and 2010s. The contrast between the medieval pile-dwelling culture documented in the History Museum and the glass-and-steel buildings that surround it is a concentrated version of the broader Chinese urban experience.

Yinzhou is primarily a modern residential and commercial district and lacks the historical texture of the old city, but it contains the History Museum, good contemporary restaurants along its main commercial strips, and the Yinzhou Wetland Park to the south — a substantial green area on the edge of the developed zone that provides habitat for migratory birds and a weekend walking destination for city residents.
