Sapu Lidi

Rice-field restaurant where you eat in stilt bamboo huts over the paddies

Sapu Lidi is the classic Bandung saung experience: a sprawling Sundanese restaurant where each dining party gets its own small bamboo hut on stilts over a working rice paddy. You sit cross-legged on a tatami floor, order from a menu of grilled fish, ayam bakar, karedok, and water-spinach, and let it appear an hour later in a parade of small dishes.

The atmosphere is the main draw — the koi pond, the rustling rice, the kids splashing through the water with fishing nets. Food is decent rather than outstanding; come for the setting and the languid pace. Jalan Sersan Bajuri 76, in the Cihideung village area. Reservations recommended.
