Sakae

Sakae is downtown Nagoya — the department store, office tower, and bar-and-restaurant heart of the city. The grid is anchored on the north by the Mirai Tower (the old TV Tower) and on the south by the Aichi Arts Centre. Between them runs Hisaya-odori Park, a long green strip reopened in 2020 with an open-air shopping promenade.

The west side of Sakae, across Otsu-dori, is the Nishiki district — small bars, jazz clubs, and the city's most established restaurants. Two metro lines (Higashiyama yellow and Meijo purple) meet at Sakae Station, putting almost everywhere central within ten minutes. The Sakae underground arcade (Sakae Chika) and the Oasis 21 plaza both link to the metro without stepping outside, which matters in the city's hot summer.
