Tsuruma Park

Tsuruma Park, opened in 1909 as Nagoya's first municipal Western-style public park, sits a short walk southeast of Osu. The grounds combine a formal Western section — a large central fountain, rose beds, the Meiji-era Tsurumaso bandstand — with a Japanese stroll garden on the southern side, complete with a tea house and a pond.

The park is the city's most popular cherry-blossom destination, with over a thousand trees that put on a particularly good show during the early-April hanami festival, when food stalls and lantern lights fill the lawns. The Aichi Prefectural Library and the Nagoya City Library both face the park, making this a good area to combine with a quiet afternoon's reading. Tsurumai Station (Tsurumai line), one minute on foot.
