Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art

On the upper floors of the Aichi Arts Centre, this collection focuses on early 20th-century European modernism and post-war Japanese art — strong holdings of Klimt (notably the late portrait "Damen Bildnis"), Kandinsky, Picasso, Léger and Soutine, plus the largest single museum collection of work by Aichi-born Modernist Kazumasa Nakagawa.

The galleries are well-lit and unfussy, the lifts work, and exhibitions rotate every few months. Major loan shows arrive every year or so. A useful counterpoint to the Nagoya City Art Museum in Fushimi. Tickets around 500 yen for the permanent collection; closed Mondays.
