The twin towers sitting directly on top of Nagoya Station — 245 and 226 metres — were when they opened in 1999 the world's tallest station-and-hotel-and-shopping-mall combination, a record they have since lost but still hold the title for largest gross floor area. The taller north tower is the JR Central head office; the south tower houses the Marriott Associa hotel from floor 20 upwards.
The Sky Street observation lobby on the 15th floor is free and offers a useful daylight view across the western city. The basement and lower floors are wrapped into Nagoya Station's vast underground arcade complex — Esca and Meichika underground malls connect across several blocks without going outside. A short flight up from Sky Street, several floors of restaurants serve everything from a Michelin-starred sushi counter to French and Italian.
