Mirai Tower

The Nagoya TV Tower — officially renamed Mirai Tower in 2020 — is the four-legged steel landmark in the centre of Hisaya-odori Park. At 180 metres it is easily climbed in a couple of minutes, and the open-air sky balcony at the top has a clean 360-degree view across the city to Mount Ontake on clear days. The lower decks contain a small museum about the tower's construction, a cafe and a souvenir shop.

The park around the tower was redeveloped in 2020 into the Hisaya-odori Park Mirai complex, a strip of shops, restaurants and outdoor terraces stretching for over a kilometre south. The tower is illuminated nightly with rotating colour schemes. Sakae subway station is two minutes away.

A story
Completed in 1954, this was Japan's first dedicated television transmission tower — a prototype for the better-known Tokyo Tower and Osaka's Tsutenkaku, both built later by the same designer, Tachu Naito. Television broadcasting moved to a digital tower elsewhere in 2011, but the structure was saved by being converted into a hotel with twelve rooms wrapped around the central column at the 90-metre level.
