Nakanoshima is a slender island sandwiched between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers in central Osaka, and this park at its eastern end is one of the city's most pleasant green spaces. The highlight is the rose garden, home to nearly 4,000 bushes across 89 varieties that peak in May and October. Lined with mature trees and flanked by water on both sides, the park has a distinctly European feel unusual for Osaka. It is popular with office workers at lunch and couples in the evening, and the riverbank paths are ideal for a stroll. Nearby you will find the handsome early 20th-century Central Public Hall and the Nakanoshima Library, both worth a look.
