The large indoor arena inside Osaka Castle Park, with a capacity of 16,000, that has been one of Japan's most important concert venues since it opened in 1983. Almost every major Japanese musical act has performed here, and international tours regularly include it as one of their Japan dates. The venue is also used for sports events and ceremonies.
The arena's setting — adjacent to the castle keep and within the park's moat — makes its exterior unusually pleasant for an arena building. Concerts here feel embedded in a part of the city rather than isolated in a peripheral entertainment district. The acoustics are functional rather than exceptional, as is typical of large arenas. A night at Osaka-jo Hall is a chance to see Japanese crowd behaviour at its most enthusiastic — the audience interaction rituals here are unlike anything in a western concert venue.
