Okada Museum of Art

The Okada Museum of Art opened in 2013 and immediately set a high standard for Japanese private museums — its collection of East Asian art, particularly Japanese, Chinese, and Korean ceramics and painting, is exceptional in both quality and presentation. The building itself is architecturally ambitious: a large modern structure with high ceilings designed to display monumental-scale works properly.

The collection spans several thousand years of East Asian artistic production: Chinese bronzes from the Bronze Age, Song dynasty ceramics, Japanese screens and folding paintings, Korean celadon, and later Japanese paintings including remarkable byōbu (folding screen) works. The admission price is high by Japanese museum standards (around 3,000 yen), which keeps crowds manageable.

The museum is near the Kowakidani onsen village, a short walk or taxi ride from Kowakidani Station on the Tozan Line.
