The Double Six Monument is a modest but emotionally charged stop in Sembulan, south of central Kota Kinabalu. It marks the crash site of the 6 June 1976 air disaster that killed Sabah Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens and several members of the state cabinet.
The monument is not a grand attraction, but it helps explain a turning point in modern Sabah history. Visit if you are tracing the city beyond beaches and markets; the site is quick to see, sober in tone, and best combined with other stops around Tanjung Aru and the airport side of town.
